The first and leading provider of an open source enterprise content management solution, today announced the availability of the Enterprise Edition of version 1.4 of the Alfresco embedded Enterprise Content Management system. This offers application vendors a low-cost, scalable platform, which is standards based, to OEM as part of their application. Traditionally application vendors have had to manage the high cost, of either developing their own repository, or using an expensive, proprietary offering from an ECM vendor.
"Alfresco is the first embeddable Enterprise Content Management system and has already been embedded in a number of applications," said John Newton, CTO, Alfresco Software, Inc. "It was designed from the beginning to be embeddable and fits as easily into enterprise applications as small devices."
Alfresco was designed from the ground up to be embedded in modern architectures for the new world of enterprise software. It is:
- A 100 percent Java war file that can be simply run in an application sever
- Can share the same JVM as the embedding application or be accessed remotely
- Less than 40MB in size
- The most scalable standards-based JSR-170 repository
- Offers the same functionality in the embedded, Enterprise and Community versions
- Simple to install and rollout
- Has an OEM friendly business model
